At the
World Congress of Climate Change
& Wine in Barcelona last February, Al
Gore praised the global wine
industry for its commitment to
addressing our growing climate
crisis. "Once we accept the
challenge of the crisis and that
it must be solved, we have to
summon the political will to
change it," Gore stated. "I wish
every industry was doing what
you are."
Now, Climate Change & Wine
comes to us here in California.
I'm pleased to announce our
support of and participation in
the event next week, on
July 31 and August 1,
at Gloria Ferrer Winery in
Carneros. The event will examine
how climate change impacts
vineyards and winery operations
-- from transportation to
shipping and packaging. The
discussion will also include
carbon reduction strategies,
outlooks for changes in pests
and diseases in vines, and the
potential need for the evolution
of the industry in light of
current climate change
scenarios.
As the second largest
electricity users in the
agricultural sector in
California, the wine industry is
in a pivotal position to do more
than just reduce its own carbon
footprint. As producers with
highly visible brands, the wine
industry can demonstrate
leadership for businesses of
every kind.
I hope to see you there,
Rob Erlichman
