Sunlight Electric is the San Francisco Bay Area's premier designer and retailer of commercial photovoltaic systems with a major focus on the sustainable food, beverage, and agriculture-related market sectors.
Headquartered in Sonoma, Sunlight Electric specializes in commercial solar power systems, under the firm belief that by focusing on the commercial sector we can deliver better service to our commercial customers and leverage our expertise that comes from understanding the needs of commercial customers.
Rob Erlichman, Sunlight Electric's Founder & President: "I started Sunlight Electric in 2002 when I was researching solar power for my home in San Francisco and was amazed and disappointed by what seemed like a remarkably poor level of service. Nine of twelve Bay Area solar companies I contacted never returned my calls and I felt like I couldn't get straight answers out of the three that I did talk to. I knew that if solar power was going to succeed as a mainstream technology, some things had to change."
Sunlight Electric was founded in 2002 under the belief that better solutions and better service would help speed the adoption of solar power technologies – one of a number of critical energy solutions that would play an increasingly important role in reducing greenhouse gases and creating greater energy security.
Today, the market has spoken. Sunlight Electric has served leading Bay Area businesses, coming up with innovative solutions that overcome the obstacles that seemed to rule out solar power for our customers based on discussions with other vendors.
With our unique "account management" model, Sunlight Electric customers work with one professional from start to finish. No hand-offs to a "project manager" while the person with whom you built a relationship of trust runs off to close another deal. With Sunlight Electric, you work with a top-notch professional with broad-based business experience that can understand your business and your needs.
Time and time again, we encounter interested business owners that tell us the same thing, "We talked to Solar Company X but weren't satisfied with what they proposed." Whether it's finding a creative location like at the end of vine-rows at Robert Keenan Winery, coming up with creative solutions for installing over non-productive land over septic fields at Frog's Leap Winery, Staglin Family Winery, and Silver Oak Cellars, or figuring out how to span long distances or parcel lines as we did at Honig Vineyard and Winery and Boeschen Vineyards, customers appreciate our can-do approach, creative problem solving, and drive to get a project done, despite the challenges and obstacles.
Our creativity and drive extends beyond siting choices to overcoming engineering challenges, introduce novel financing options like leasing, to working to resolve the occasionally inevitable issues that arise in construction projects. At the end of the day, our success is dependent on our customers' success, and we act that way every day.
We've built our business model around value creation for our customers, not investors. Sunlight Electric is a private company with no outside investors, no debt, and no one to answer to except our customers and employees.
Instead of negotiating a volume deal with a single PV module manufacturer or a single inverter manufacturer, we believe that the key to coming up with the best solution means having the flexibility to choose the right product for the job, not the product we have to sell since we're committed to purchasing a certain volume.
A consequence of this is that we pay about 10% higher prices than some of our competitors. But rather than pass along higher prices, we've created a lean business model that manages our overhead more carefully so we can offer premium solutions at competitive prices.
Sunlight Electric creates value for our customers' bottom line with the right products at the right price, and we also create value by helping our customers build their top line, with marketing ideas and marketing services that help them get credit in the marketplace for their efforts to enhance their sustainability.
Quality, Service, and Value. It's what we do to make solar simple.
